Author Interview with Cherry Adair

Euro-Reviews is thrilled to interview the USA Today bestseller author Cherry Adair. She received numerous awards for her innovative action-adventure novels which include On Thin Ice, Out of Sight, In Too Deep, Hide and Seek, and Kiss and Tell. I hope our readers and fans will get to know this author a bit more personally after this interview.

Welcome to this interview, Ms Adair!

Can you tell our readers a little about yourself?

I grew up in Cape Town, South Africa and in my early 20's moved half way across the globe to the United States. I eventually settled in San Francisco and opened an interior design business, which I loved because of the variety and creativity. But I was a voracious reader. Eventually my brain became crowded with characters and stories of my own and they demanded to be told. These days I live on the banks of a lake in my dream home where my office has nine-foot ceilings, two plush overstuffed armchairs, a fireplace, a television and built-in bookcases that house approximately 3,500 favorite paperback books.

What made you decide to become a writer?

I am a creative person by nature, sot when characters and story's started crowding my brain, I had to get them on paper.

What does a typical writing day look like for you?

I usually write for five to seven hours a day, six days a week. I get up, enjoy a cup of coffee, looking out at the lake, then go to my office and start work. Often there are emails and phone calls to attend to, sometimes editing to work on before I can write new material. I try to exercise each day and take a break in the afternoon. My real creative time tends to be at night or when I'm on a very tight deadline, and then I won't sleep much until it's finished. I find if I can just get that first draft complete, then the process isn't so hard from there.

Is there a character from one of your books that resonates deeply with you?

That's rather like asking a mother which of her children she loves the best. All of them resonate with me, particularly when I'm writing them.

Can you tell our readers a little about what you're currently working on?

I'm updating and adding to my very first published book The Mercenary. It's so much fun to go back and revisit old characters. But of course, Marc and Tory are a little out dated and dusty after 10 years! As a writer one's abilities grow and change with every book one writes. To be able to go back to the beginning with what I know now is a wonderful opportunity to write the story in a completely fresh way.

Is there something special you do to celebrate when one of your books is released?

I like to reward myself with a professional massage, take a nap and curl up to read a book that isn't one of mine!

Here are some fun and a bit crazy getting-to-know-you questions…

Favorite food? Chocolate.

Favorite color? Orange.

Favorite movie? I love Gone with the Wind, but I also love Con Air. Does that tell you a little about what I write?

TV Show? Nip/Tuck and Gray's Anatomy

Favorite time of day? Dusk, because then I know it's almost time to stop working.

Favorite childhood memory? We had Simon and Garfunkel came to a party at our house in Cape Town when I was about 14.

Do you have any strange habits or talents?

I wouldn't call them strange. . .Ok. Maybe they are. <g> I'm not going to share them here however.

Is there any anything else that you'd like to share with our readers or advice you'd like to give to aspiring authors?

Sit your butt in the chair and finish the book. That's where it all starts, that's what makes that first sale, that's what it takes to have a career in this business. Write, write, write.

Thank you for this interesting interview, Ms Adair!
