Author Interview with Emma Wildes

I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to interview Emma Wildes, a very talented erotica author that also writes mainstream romance/suspense novels as Katherine Smith. Whether you prefer your romance with a lot of mystery and suspense or you like regency with a bit more spice, she constructs amazing storylines and creates wonderful characters with great depth.

On to the good stuff…

Can you tell our readers a little about yourself?

I'm a Scandinavian girl, born in Minnesota , but I grew up in New Mexico and now live in Indiana with my husband and three children. I went to Illinois State University to study Geology, and now write books. Go figure!

What made you decide to become an author?

That's easy. I LOVE to read. Absolutely love it. There is something wonderful about a good book, it is like a gift. Hey, for those of us to like to read, a rainy day is a boon, not a curse. Picture this...getting to create the work, not just enjoy reading it! It is so much fun to write.

What does a typical writing day look like for you?

I get up literally at the crack of dawn and start to write. I am most fresh in the early morning. Coffee and my computer…yeah, heaven <grin> I pretty much write all day but the best comes in those wee hours.

You broach some risqué, or what many would consider controversial subjects (which I think is fascinating) and then provide your readers with what I call a “surprise” or incredible plot twist. Where do you get your ideas?

<clearing throat> Well, sometimes I do surprise even myself. Seriously, I am not sure where it all comes from for certain plot lines. What would be an outrageous fantasy for any woman (such as Savage Shores ), but still give our heroine the happy ending with the man she loves...? It is a challenge to create a romance that feels new and fresh, but I do try, and the more hoops my characters have to jump through, well, that's life, right? That said, all my books are definitely love stories, even the erotic ones.

Is there a character from one of your books that resonates deeply with you?

As Katherine Smith, I fell deeply in love with Jonathan Wakefield from Before an Autumn Wind. What a stubborn Scottish cutie! I also have a special place in my heart for my Emma hero of The Manuscript, Justin. He is a truly nice guy and it was my pleasure to give him a happy ending! (you know, all that nice guys finish last business!)

Do you have something special that you do to celebrate each time one of your books is released?

Little glass of wine, a toast, and that secret, blissful smile!

Who are some of your favorite authors?

Mary Stewart, Zane Grey, Dick Francis and Barbara Michaels. I also read Stephen White, and John Sanford for gritty reality. In romance, there are so many I admire, but Susan Johnson is so wonderful and her sex scenes are scorching…whew! Her style is polished, sophisticated, and not to be forgotten! My fave; Sinful. Can't get enough of Sinjin St. John.

What books are currently on your bedside table?

I am reading An Unwilling Conquest by Stephaine Laurens. It is fabulous.

Is there any anything else that you'd like to tell our readers?

A good book is like gold. Cherish it, like I do (ask my husband about the stacks of books all around our house)! I do not think reading will become a lost art to the computer screen, since there are too many of us who still like a lazy afternoon and a tantalizing novel…God bless and keep on flipping those pages...

Thanks Emma for taking the time to answer my questions!
